Draft Poster Design

This is my first attempt at a poster design for my Principles of Visual Design class. I wanted to create a poster that would encourage people to consider a career in the arts as a viable option. I decided to photoshop my camera lens onto my eye as it symbolises the concept of becoming integrated into the world of media. This is reinforced by the message of “Change your point of view” which serves as a literal visual pun when viewed with the image of the face. For the text on screen I used the American Typewriter font as it is the same font used on movie scripts and helps to tie the themes of creation and creator together.

Eyes are one of the most common points of connection in humans “We can tell a true (or Duchenne) smile from a fake by looking at a person’s eyes. The mouth shape of a smile is easy to fake—we do it all the time out of politeness. But the eyes are the giveaway: When we’re truly happy, we not only smile but also crinkle the corners of our eyes in a “crow’s feet” pattern. But when people fake a smile, they usually forget about their eyes” (Ludden, 2015). I feel this juxtaposition of machinery and flesh helps to leave an impactful impression on the audience.

This design was influenced in part by the cover artwork from Twisted Metal: Black for the general placement and the System Shock artwork provided the idea for the replacement of eyes.

In the background of the image I found 33 job roles from the credits of Avengers: Endgame and randomised them multiple times to create a large list that covers the entire background area of the poster. It is my hope that the audience would scan this space and find something that appeals to them.
