The grinding wheel was based on an image I found on Pinterest.
I wanted my version of this item to look as if it was relatively new. In my design process I simplified the handle with a number of extrusions and added a leather handle to make the piece easier to operate. I incorporated the turning wheel into the grindstone as if it was set within concrete. The operation of this wheel would lead to collapse if it was fastened together without the large pegs through each of the connecting points.
The texture used on the wheel itself was leather with some of the colour values shifted as it appeared to have a rough edge to it when darkened from its normal starting colours.
