Anvil Design Notes

The Anvil was a pretty simplistic model to create. It was based upon this design from Mike Hermes who helpfully created a 3d plane map to use as a template for the model.

After quickly sketching out a design, it became clear that the sides of the Anvil will rarely come into contact with anything else and would ultimately be rather clean.

The horn and the top of the piece would be frequently battered and damaged in the process of creating other items therefore the Anvil should reflect this. I used a variety of Alphas on the top to create levels of damage and mess to show it is a well-worn piece of equipment. One of the benefits to the material I chose in Substance painter for this piece was it didn’t reflect light like a lot of the metallic materials do, much like a real Anvil.
