The poster I intend to produce is designed to encourage people to consider a career in the creative fields. The main objective is to convey the idea that everyone has the potential within themselves to create some form of art primarily through the medium of short / film making. The purpose of this piece would ideally be part of a larger campaign for either a university or a school of arts such as the National Film and Television School.
The audience for this would be young adults who find themselves unsure of what career path they would like to engage in. This piece is specifically designed to try and convince the audience believe that they have the potential to not be constrained by a typical career path. I am hoping that the poster I create would engage the viewer on an emotive level, in a similar manner to the example below and reinforce the visual elements with a punchy phrase.
While this example does not fit the theme I intend to explore, the visual language is very similar to how I will approach my piece. This is a print advert used by Sony in the mid to late nineties to promote its new Playstation console. In the top left of the advert the text “DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF PLAYSTATION” is considerably smaller than the rest of the image as the main focus is on the visceral imagery of a mans veins distorting while engaging with the console.
The messaging is clear, using this product will change you on a fundamental level and become a part of you. This image creates a link between man and machine, as the four face buttons of the Playstation’s digital controller embed themselves within the flesh of the man. This imagery is striking and leaves the viewer with a sense of unease and perhaps a perverse curiosity as to the power of the Playstation.
